LYN Jones has pledged to wield the axe after Newport Gwent Dragons' Guinness Pro12 horror show in Dublin, writes Chris Kirwan.

The director of rugby is usually one for highlighting the positives but pulled no punches after the 37-13 hammering to Leinster.

The Dragons were wasteful in attack and lacked snap in defence as the hosts gained revenge for being doubled in the league last season.

Next up is a trip to champions Glasgow a week on Friday and Jones says the management team will ring the changes after a woeful display.

"Leinster had 16 Ireland players missing and it didn't really matter. They could have had 50 away at the World Cup because our standards were so poor," lamented Jones.

"It was a very bad day at the office and we simply weren't accurate in anything we did.

"We need to knuckle down, get our selection right and get people working harder for the cause.

"In sport some days it will happen for you and others it won't but we need to be tighter than that. It just wasn't good enough, but we are confident that we can turn this around for Glasgow."

The Dragons had hoped to start well while others were more affected by World Cup call-ups but have mustered just five points from three games.

The Leinster game came after a three-week break following their frustrating 13-0 win against Zebre at Rodney Parade.

They now have another weekend off before the games come thick and fast, the next lull coming in the first weekend of February.

"After that we don't want another week off but that's the way it goes," said Jones. "We are trying to move forward and need games to do that. Unfortunately we don't have them at the moment."

The Dragons will assess the knee injury that forced wing/full-back Tom Prydie off early in the second half but captain Rhys Thomas is set to miss the Glasgow game with the foot problem that sidelined him for the trip to Dublin.
