A PONTYPOOL man has pleaded guilty to three separate driving offences after driving a silver Ford Focus into a Torfaen Tesco store.

Nicholas Morgan, 44, of Pen-y-Graig Terrace, Cwmfields, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

He was facing charges of driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The incident occurred at around 9.30pm on Monday, August 15 when Morgan smashed the silver car into the store on Lower Bridge Street in Pontypool.

The court heard how the driver had borrowed his mother’s car and lost control of the vehicle after his bum bag had become unfastened around his waist.

Morgan, who was unrepresented at Newport Magistrates Court, confirmed that police had taken a drug test following the crash as he admitted to being an occasional user of cannabis.

He admitted to using the drug a matter of days prior to the crash in the car park, and the court heard how Morgan has two previous convictions for driving offences, relating back to 2002 and 2006.

District judge Richard Williams accepted the guilty pleas from Morgan but decided to adjourn the case for two weeks until the result of the drug test are known.

Morgan will re-appear before magistrates on Monday, September 12 at Cwmbran Magistrates Court.
