THERE'S lots to do in Monmouthshire this half term.

1. Monmouthshire Food Festival 2016

Saturday June 4 - Sunday June 5, Caldicot Castle

The popular culinary celebration returns to Caldicot Castle for its fourth year, bringing visitors from across the UK.

The event showcases locally sourced food from the county as well as giving cooking demonstrations.

Chris Harrod, chef patron of the Michelin-starred restaurant The Whitebrook, will partner with local forager Henry Ashby to talk about using freshly foraged ingredients in his menu.

Other attractions include a Children's Quarter hosted by Monmouthshire Youth Service

Admission will cost £5 per person, with children under 12 going free.

2. Welsh Perry and Cider Festival

Friday May 27 - 30, Caldicot Castle

The Welsh Perry and Cider Festival is celebrating its 15th year with its third consecutive event in Caldicot

This event, which combines cider, music, entertainment regularly attracts thousands of visitors a year.

Caldicot breakout band Rusty Shackle are among a bumper musical line-up for attendees to enjoy.

As usual, several varieties of Welsh cider will be on offer from across a 16 metre bar.

3. Welsh Wine Week

Saturday May 28 - Sunday June 5. Various locations.

Again one for when you don't have the kids - the best Welsh vino from the best Monmouthshire vineyards can be sampled throughout the county during half-term.

Four vineyards across the county will be taking part including Tintern's Parva Farm, where visitors can enjoy free wine tasting and tours.

The award-winning Ancre Hill in Monmouth will also be participating in the event.

Abergavenny's White Castle and Sugarloaf Vineyards will also offer their own, with the former offering a selection of Welsh cheeses to compliment the wine.

4. Shirefest 2016

Saturday June 4, 2pm - midnight, The Huntsman Hotel, Shirenewton.

The fundraising festival Shirefest returns with a rich variety of acts and bands from all over the country.

It will have two stages hosting talents from nearby towns and from as far as Swansea and Carmarthen.

There will be plenty of food and refreshments available all day, as well as plenty of outside cover if it rains.

The event will once again be raising money for Noah's Ark Children's Hospital Charity.

Tickets cost £10 from the Huntsman Hotel or Hannah's Music, Chepstow.

Ages 16 and under go free.

5. "Myths and Legends"

Sunday May 29 - Monday 30, 11am to 4pm, Raglan Castle.

Raglan Castle will play host to all manners of mythical beings where the entire family can enjoy a magical weekend.

All ages can participate in a variety of activities including meeting and learning to train the baby dragons of the Dragon Lords.

Visitors can also enrol in the Fairy Academy found in a forest, where they can enjoy crafts, face painting and games.

Elsewhere, Robin Hood will also give you the chance to try your hand at archery.

6. Summer Stories

Tuesday May 31, 11am to 4pm (Tintern Abbey). Saturday June 4, 11am to 4pm (Chepstow Castle).

The history of Welsh oral traditions will be celebrated at two separate venues over half-term, Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle.

The Summer Stories initiative, which was launched in 2014, raises awareness of the importance of storytelling through Wales' rich literary heritage.

Each story can last up to 30 minutes, with no booking needed.

Normal admission prices will apply.

7. Abergavenny Steam, Veteran & Vintage Rally.

Sunday May 29 - 30. 9.30am to 6pm. Bailey Park, Abergavenny.

The great colourful steam trains that once dominated the railroads across Britain will be on display for visitors at this event.

A display of Veteran, Vintage, Military & Civilian vehicles give glimpse to a time when Britain led the world in building vehicles.

The motoring theme is continued with a motorcycle display.

Tickets cost £6, secondary schoolchildren an OAPs £4 and younger children free.

8. "Wild Wednesday"

Wednesday June 1, 10am to 3pm, Sugar Loaf and Usk Valley.

Families will have the chance to explore the scenic Sugar Loaf mountain and St Mary's Vale this half-term.

Rangers will lead attendees on an adventure through the area, with activities such as damming a stream, den building, bug hunting and much more.

Groups will meet the rangers at the lower Llanwenarth car park.

All children must be accompanied by and adult, and bringing a picnic is recommended.
