ONE year on from her horrific ordeal, staff at Greenmeadow Community Farm, Cwmbran are delighted to have one of their famous faces still with them.

Cheeky the donkey was stabbed 16 times across her body on Saturday November 29 2014 after a vicious attack.

The 23-year-old mare has made a full recovery and is reminding staff at her centre of her former self prior to last year’s attack.

Centre manager Sally Partridge said: “She’s very much the donkey that we’ve known and loved, who has returned to her former self.”

“It was an absolutely horrific thing to happen and it was genuinely touch and go for the first three to five days whether we would lose her last year.”

Cheeky lives in a stable at the Greenmeadow farm with two other donkeys, Angel and Woody, and staff believe she has suffered no lasting effects from her attack.

“We were worried that after her attack she would be fearful of people as it would have damaged her trust in people,” she said.

“But I am pleased to say that is not the case – we are all amazed and delighted with how well she has recovered.”

The centre is considering a number of fundraisers in the future to raise money which would be put towards a new stable for Cheeky and her fellow donkeys to live in.

Their current residence is suffering from subsidence and the safety of the animals is of key importance to the crew at Greenmeadow farm.

“It is only a matter of time before it is unsafe for the donkeys to be in there at all,” said the centre manager.

“We have a charity called the Friends of Greenmeadow Farm and they are looking at ways of raising additional funds for the stable block.

“There will be forthcoming future fundraising events with a number of things in the pipeline and the charity are looking at ways to bring them to the fore,” she added.
