AN ABERGAVENNY man is alleged to have committed multiple sex offences against children, a jury was told.

Paul Jones, 47, of Old Barn Way, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday charged with the following offences:

• four counts of indecency with a child;
• five counts of rape of a child;
• two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity;
• two counts of engaging in sexual activity in front of a child;
• and two counts of sexual assault of a child.

James Wilson, prosecuting, told the jury that Jones forced the youngsters to perform sexual acts on him, and would get angry if they did not comply.

Jones, also known by his middle name Delwyn, denies all charges against him.

The alleged victim, a female who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in court via video link yesterday.

Before she gave evidence, the jury was shown a police interview with her.

In it, she claimed Jones would ask her for “sexual favours”.

She later told the court she complied because she was “afraid”.

But Timothy Evans, defending, questioned the witness’ account.

He said: “The truth, I suggest, is you can’t get your stories straight because you made these stories up.”

The witness replied: “No, that’s not right.”

Recorder Ian Murphy QC said the trial is likely to last until the beginning of next week.

The other alleged victim, is due in court today to give evidence.
